A backpack brand has launched a collection of highly adaptable shoulder bags and backpacks to make their products more accessible.

The JanSport Central Adaptive Backpack and Central Adaptive Crossbody, which come in black and misty pink color combinations, were co-designed with the disability community with help from disability advocacy group Disability:IN .

The adaptive mid-backpack is designed to fit securely on the back of a mobility device for better balance. It features a shortened height and reduced depth to allow users to easily reach items at the bottom of the bag. A padded main body has been created for easier opening, along with easy release buckles and finger loops for those with limited dexterity.

The backpack is customizable for all mobility devices with easily adjustable push handle loops on the back of the bag. Anchor straps fit a wide variety of chair types and sizes and easily secure the bottom of the bag to a wheelchair frame or around the back of a mobility device. It also includes no-hang, no-fuss shoulder straps with finger loop adjustments, stowable shoulder straps for alternate carrying methods, two water bottle pockets, a laptop sleeve with organization pockets, and is made from 100% recycled sustainable materials and lining. .

The Central Adaptive Crossbody attaches to a variety of mobility devices, features a removable shoulder strap, easy release buckles and finger loops for those with limited dexterity. The bag features an easy-to-open structured front panel, one-handed open/close mechanism and a SaniStash pocket. Additional options include stowable adjustable buckles and side attachment points for multiple carrying and securing methods. The bag is also made from a durable 100% recycled material and lining.

Disability:IN was able to connect JanSport with consumers with disabilities to create consumer focus groups.

From inception of the project to product launch, it took three years, as the company was keen to ensure that it had fully considered the needs of people with disabilities.

The Adaptive Collection is available now from Jansport’s website and select retailers in the UK.

The well-known brand’s entry into the adaptive clothing industry is joined by Tommy Hilfigre’s Adaptive collection, which was recently added to Zalando, an online fashion and lifestyle platform.
