Newtown residents will have the opportunity to shed their old clothes and acquire new ones through a clothing swap in town next month.

The One Planet Generation Project will hold a community clothing swap at the Hafan yr Afon, Riverside Community and Visitor Center at Back Lane.

Organizers say the project will facilitate a series of events during mid-February to raise awareness of the environmental impact of fast and ‘disposable’ fashion and encourage more sustainable fashion choices.

It will begin with a community clothing swap on Saturday, February 18.

“A great opportunity to trade in your old wardrobe for something new, without the ecological footprint or the price of new clothes,” said one organizer.

“People are encouraged to bring school uniforms, if your kids keep growing or need to change schools, it could save you a buck or two.”

Community members are encouraged to donate clean, undamaged clothing in exchange for tokens that can be exchanged for other clothing.

“The swap is designed to help people refresh their wardrobes without buying new ones. Bring your donations from 11 a.m. and the swap starts at 12 p.m. From 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., no tokens are required and all must go,” they added.
