Munich (Germany) (AFP) – Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic has slammed striker Serge Gnabry for his “amateurish” visit to Paris Fashion Week, saying “the title is on the line”.
Gnabry flew to Paris after Bayern’s 1-1 draw with Leipzig on Friday, sharing photos of the trip on social media.
Salihamidzic reacted after Bayern’s 1-1 draw at home to Cologne on Tuesday.
Gnabry was substituted at half-time. Coach Julian Nagelsmann said after the match that he wanted to bring “a breath of fresh air”.
Salihamidzic later suggested that the German striker wasn’t completely focused.
“It’s amateur, it’s exactly what Bayern Munich is not, frolicking somewhere when you have the day off,” said the sporting director, hinting that the former Bayern striker Arsenal could suffer the consequences.
“A day off is to rest so that you can step on the gas in the next game.
“We’ll talk about it on Wednesday, for sure. Of course, we have to talk about it.”
Gnabry, 27, had previously been criticized in the German media.
Speaking on Monday, Nagelsmann said the striker didn’t break any rules but had to ‘give the right answer (to criticism) on the pitch’.
Salihamidzic said Tuesday that an 11th consecutive title was not guaranteed for the eternal champions of Germany.
“(It’s) high time we changed gears and realized the championship is now on the line.”
